How big is the park?
4.2 acres. Clark County purchased the property in 1998 for development as a neighborhood park.
When will construction start?
In spring 2008.
What is the total budget for this project?
The total project budget, including planning, design, permitting and construction costs is $560,376. The construction budget is approximately $487,500.
How is this project being paid for?
Funding to design and construct this project comes from Park Impact Fees, which are paid whenever a new residential development is built; and Real Estate Excise Taxes, which are paid whenever a property is sold.
Maintenance of the park after it’s built will be paid for with property taxes collected by the Greater Clark Parks District, which was approved by voters in the unincorporated urban area of Clark County in 2005.
Who will maintain the park after it’s built?
After construction is complete, Clark County Public Works will maintain the park. Maintenance will include mowing, weed removal, tree care, emptying trash cans, and other repairs as needed.
What will happen to the trees currently along the south side of the park?
All healthy, non-invasive trees will be protected during construction and included as part of the landscaping plan for the park.
Will there be parking and restrooms in the park?
No. Neighborhood parks are designed for people living within a half-mile of the park to walk or bike to. They are not meant to be “destination” parks that serve larger areas and include more facilities. As a result, the budget for this park does not include funding for parking or restrooms.
Will there be lighting in the park?
No. The hours of operation for all neighborhood parks are 7 a.m. to dusk (sunset). As a result, the budget for this park does not include funding for lighting.
What are the official park rules?
The following activities are prohibited by county law in public parks (Clark County Code Chapter 9.04):
Littering
Vandalism
Alcohol possession
Firearms
Motorized vehicles such as ATVs and motorcycles
Disorderly conduct
Open or unattended fires (covered grills may be allowed unless otherwise noted)
Hunting
Camping (unless otherwise noted)
Horseback riding (unless otherwise noted)
Unleashed animals (unless otherwise noted)
In addition, pet waste must be cleaned up by those responsible for the animals, according to Clark County Code (Chapter 8.11.060(17)). Rules signs will be posted at all park entrances.
Citizens may report violations to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office by dialing 9-1-1. Be sure to tell the operator whether or not there in an emergency.
Will the Sheriff’s Office patrol the park on a regular basis?
The Clark County Sheriff’s Office will be visible around the park after construction is complete. However, it is very important that neighbors immediately report any criminal activities or other safety issues to the Sheriff’s Office by dialing 9-1-1.
