Fisher-Mill Plain (Vandervort) Neighborhood Park

Current Status
Planning and design work on this project will resume in July 2008. A public meeting to review several preliminary concept plans for the park will be scheduled in late summer or early fall 2008. Invitations to the meeting will be mailed to all residents living within a half-mile of the park several weeks in advance. Or you can join the e-mailing list for the project by filling out the form at the bottom of this Web page.

Dog park moves back to Pacific Park on July 7
The temporary off-leash dog park currently located in Vanderovrt Park will move to its new, permanent home at Pacific Community Park starting on July 1, 2008. On July 7, the dog park at Vandervort Park will officially close, and off-leash use will no longer be allowed. The additional fencing and gates will be removed shortly thereafter, and the park will be reseeded in the fall.

Project Description
This 8-acre park is located on NE 172nd Avenue between NE 3rd and NE 5th Streets in the Fisher-Mill Plain neighborhood. The park property currently features a number of mature evergreen trees and open grassy areas.

Clark County sets the budget for each park project based on site-specific conditions such as wetlands, other natural features, and the need for curbs and sidewalks on adjacent streets. The approved budget also includes funding for neighborhood park features such as playground equipment, trails, picnic tables, landscaping, a sports court, and benches. What types of features will be included in this park will be determined with public input during the coming months.

Public Participation
Project staff rely on public participation to help guide park layout during the design process. Your input will:

  • Help us understand and respond to the needs and concerns of your neighborhood.
  • Help us understand which park features are most important to you and your neighbors.
  • Help us learn about the potential for community fundraising to add features to the park..

The first project mailer was sent out to park neighbors in late March 2007. Several different preliminary concept plans will be developed based on public input, the project budget and the topography of the park. These plans will be presented to neighbors at a public meeting in late summer or early fall 2008.

Project Funding
Design and construction of Fisher-Mill Plain (Vandervort) Neighborhood Park is funded by park impact fees, which are paid whenever a new residential property is developed, and the real estate excise tax, which is paid whenever property is sold. Maintenance of the park will be funded by the Greater Clark Parks District, a special district approved by voters in the unincorporated urban area of Clark County in 2005.
